Middleham Park Racing Syndicate LXXVII
Purchased at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale, which produced two Classic winners last year as well as more 2022 two-year-old Group and Listed performers than any other European two-year-olds in training sale.
This colt is by sire of sires, ACCLAMATION - A proven multiple Group 1 sire including QE11 Cup and Hong Kong Derby Winner Romantic Warrior and with 14 Individual Black Type performers in 2022. He is also the sire of ACLAIM, DARK ANGEL, EQUIANO, EXPERT EYE, HARBOUR WATCH and MARSHA.
There is no finer trainer of the progeny of the world-renowned stallion ACCLAMATION than Richard Hannon - Mehmas, Lilbourne Lad, our own Group 2 winning Ventura Tormenta, Harbour Watch, Cake & Oh This Is Us, to name but a few.
Richard loved this horse when we went to view him together following the colt’s fantastic breeze, the day before. He’s a super stamp of a horse, very sizeable, tall, long, athletic, and elegant with a fantastically long stride on him, in his quicker paces. He has a huge, honest head, with big, honest ears and possesses a fantastic temperament as you can see from his beautifully honest breeze, shown below.
Given his size, physique, and stride pattern, it’s really no surprise that in his breeze, he started off steadily and simply got faster and faster throughout the 2.5f of Newmarket’s Rowley Mile Breeze Up course. As he meets the rising ground, you can see him starting to be at his most comfortable and he’s particularly strong through and past the finishing line. He finished in 9th position overall from the day’s 174 horses to breeze, some achievement for a huge horse who took time to get going and finished off stronger than ever.
We’d be adamant that the further 2.5f that he’ll encounter in races proper, should bring out significant improvement too. A set of race conditions should very much play to his strengths and that a 6th furlong too could be right up this colt’s alley, in time. When viewing the horse with Ross Doyle, he commented that he very much reminded him of the horse Harbour Watch. We’d love to hope he could be a Group winner, and stallion, just like him.
Monday’s breezes took place on ground that was on the easy side of good and we think that sort of going would be ideal for this son of Acclamation, however, his action is so fluent that we’re certain he’ll find quicker ground equally compatible. He’s a proper horse, with a proper action.
We feel that this is colt represents fantastic value, coming in at a hammer price of 50,000gns.
He qualifies for the £250,000 Tattersalls Craven Royal Ascot/Group 1 Bonus, the £15,000 Craven Bonus and the €10,000 Irish purchase incentive scheme, which means that, were he to win a regulation Class 4 Maiden or Novice Stakes, he’d be in line for around £30,000 of benefits, with the addition of the day’s prize money.
